Acceptance of Yeshiva Rules

Yeshiva Rules*
1. Seder:
A. Being in Yeshivah: Every Talmid is obligated to arrive at the Yeshiva at the beginning of every Z’man, and to remain in Yeshiva until the end of the Z’man.
A Talmid has the right to take one personal in-town off Shabbos during the year provided that his Shmiras Hasdorim was perfect in the month before his requested Shabbos. The time given for an off Shabbos will be determined by the hanholoh.
A Talmid who has a family Simcha or a medical issue etc. must request reshus prior to making any appointments or travel plans. Please do not wait until the last moment to ask reshus. In general, there is one week given for a wedding of a sibling (including one Shabbos), and 2 days for a Bar Mitzvah of a sibling. Talmidim are responsible for all learning missed and must make it up before the following test.
The Zman Halimudim continues with Yeshivas Kayitz through the summer, until after tes vav av, and Talmidim are expected to remain until the entire Zman is complete, unless they receive special permission to be exempt.

B. Being on time to Sedorim: One of the most important conditions for the success of a talmid is Kabolas Ol with regards to seder. Every talmid is expected to be on time to all Sedorim, and all preparations need to be completed before the beginning of the Seder. If a talmid misses Seder more than deemed reasonable by the Hanhalla, the advisability of his continuing in Yeshiva will be questioned.
After farbrengens, seder Chasidus will be 7 and 1/2 hours after the talmid leaves the farbrengen. However, every talmid must come for Shachris under all circumstances (in instances in which there was not sufficient time to sleep before shacharis, additional time will be provided after davening). Talmidim are expected to give themselves enough sleep to be able to function and learn the next day.
During Seder: Every Talmid is expected to use out the time to the fullest. Talmidim should only be in the zal throughout the seder, and should not be anywhere else, including the shiur rooms (not during a Shiur), trailers, dining room, and other Botey Medrash around Yeshivah. Needless to say, a bochur should not be on the phone or engaged in any other activities during seder without permission. Every Talmid must learn what was designated for him by his Magid Shiur or Mashpia; and must participate in the shiur given for all subjects.

C. Davening: Davening is important part of Yeshiva, and an important part of the day of a Tomim. The entire morning is designed to enhance the avodas hatefilla of the talmid, and should be used as such. It is recommended that mikva take place before chassidus. The time between chassidus and davening (between 9:00 and 9:30) is designated solely for getting ready to daven, including saying korbonos and Tanya, thinking chassidus, bodily preparations etc. It goes without saying that that time cannot be spent ch”v in idle pursuits.
Every Talmid must put on his Tefilin no later than 9:25, and wear them until after the Chazan finishes Tehilim. During the entire Davening, every Talmid must be focused solely on his davening. Idle talk at that time is prohibited by halacha and by the letters of our Rebbeim, and will be enforced by the Yeshiva.
Every Talmid is expected to start with the minyan, and to daven slowly word for word, remaining in one place. Even if a talmid is not feeling well, he is expected to come to daven with the minyan.

D. Tests: As the Rebbe directed, there will be tests given periodically on most topics learned in yeshiva. A test is when the Talmid shows what was accomplished in his leaning.
Every talmid must make sure to take all tests given. If he was missing at the time it was given, it’s his responsibility to arrange a retest. A talmid who fails a test ח"ו that the hanholoh feels was not warranted will be required to give a Mashkon of $10 and will get it back when he receives the mark prearranged with the Magid shiur, Mashpia or Menahel on the retest.

E. Shabbos: All preparations for Shabbos, including eating after Mivtzoim, going to Mikve and getting dressed are to be made before Mincha. All Talmidim must be after all of their preparations for Shabbos in time for Friday Mincha and must be in attendance at Seder from then until after Maariv.

2. Yiras Shomayim and Chassidishe conduct:
A. Mikva: It is expected that every Tomim immerses himself in the Mikva daily to have the right level of Tahara before starting to Daven. There are at least three mikvaos available to the talmidim (see more details in letter with general information). Every single Talmid must verify with the Hanholoh the arrangements he made with one of the available mikvaos. No talmid may use any mikva without arranging payment; it is against Halocho, it causes a Chilul Hashem and it does damage to other Talmidim.

B. Respect to the Zal: Although the mandatory Sedorim are defined, Talmidim are expected to have additional learning done between Sedarim. Like Chitas and Rambam, Sichos of the Rebbe and so on.
The Beis Medrash of Yeshivah is always designated for learning and Davening only, even between Sedarim (unless specified otherwise at special times by Hanhala). Talmidim who are doing other things, must make sure they are respecting the atmosphere the Beis Medrash is supposed to have.
It’s known how much the Rebbe emphasized the importance of a shul being clean and respectful. Talmidim should remember that the Zal is your place, and is a Beis Hashem, and treat it with the proper respect. If you use a cup, a plate or a wrapping from a snack, be sure it ends up in the garbage. If you see litter on the floor, pick it up and dispose of it.

C. Language and songs: The speech of person has a deep effect on his Neshomo and on those around him. It is expected that the manner of speech of every Talmid is refined and reflective of the ideals and values of Tomchei Tmimim. Of course, there is no place in Yeshiva for any forms of inappropriate speech or words, including foul language, inappropriate content, unfitting songs etc. Talmidim who ch”v cannot comply with this expectation will not be welcome in the Yeshiva.

D. Clothing: The Zohar says “A Talmid Chacham is called Shabbos”. The way a person dresses influences the way he feels about himself. Any clothing that would not be deemed appropriate for Shabbos is not appropriate for a Talmid in Yeshiva. This includes white shirt, dark jacket, dark pants, black shoes (no crocs and the like), Yarmulkes may not have any designs or emblems, a hat and sweater without a hood. When playing, a Talmid may wear sneakers. No Bochur coming to Yeshiva should have any other types of clothing in his possession in the first place (parents are asked to pay attention to what your son takes with him to Yeshiva).
As well is befitting that his clothing should at all times be neat and clean and orderly.
A soldier walks outside with his uniform! A Chosid represents the Rebbe wherever he goes. While walking anywhere outside of Yeshiva property, a hat and jacket must be worn at all times (and in the winter – also a coat).

E. Cleanliness: “A Chosid is a Mesudar”. A Talmid’s conduct in the dining room, dormitory and anywhere else should be befitting to this title.

F. The Takonoh of the Rebbe of not exceeding four small L’chayims even during a farbrengen will be strictly enforced. It goes without saying that consumption of alchohol not during farbrengens has no place at all. Farbrengens are not allowed in the dormitories.

3. Devices:
A. Not approved Possessions: The following items, besides being a distraction to learning, davening and darkei hachassidus, can ח"ו be extremely detrimental to the life of a Talmid and to those living around him.
If any of these items are found in a Talmid’s possession it will be confiscated and not returned. In addition, the Talmid will receive a Knas and may even be expelled:
1. Any iPod touch, hard drive or private computer and any device that has Wi-Fi capability. Any electronic device not specifically approved by the hanholoh.
2. Books, newspapers, and magazines that are not fitting with a Chassidishe spirit. If in doubt about the appropriateness of an item, check with the hanhala before you bring it, or leave it at home ושב ואל תעשה עדיף, וספיקא לחומרא.

B. Cell phones policy: The idea of Yeshivah is to create a place where Talmidim can be fully immersed in Torah, Chasidus and Yiras Shomayim. To enable this, Yeshiva does not allow any devices that have WIFI capabilities.

A talmid who needs, may bring a (kosher) simple phone that for talk and text only. Those are the only phones that a talmid may have in his possession, and only bein hasedorim.
C. Music devices: Talmidim who wish to have an iPod mp3 or the like, for Chasidishe Inyonim only, may be permitted after being registered by the Hanhalah. The device may be filled only with Chasidishe Inyonim! The Talmid must be prepared to present it for inspection at any time.

4. Leaving Yeshivah grounds:
A Talmid may not be anywhere except on the property of the Yeshiva at all times.
Bochurim have permission to visit the following stores during their lunch and supper breaks as needed: Savours, Metro, Bubbys bagels, Haymishe Bakery, Hermes, People’s drug mart, and cleaners within 2 blocks of Yeshiva.
No Talmid may be anywhere else any time without explicit permission from the Hanhalah before leaving, under any circumstances. No excuse can justify such behavior. Any Talmid who transgresses this rule is actively removing himself from the jurisdiction of the Hanhala, and may be suspended ח"ו.
Friday Mivtzoim is meant only for Mivtzoim, if a Talmid wants to shop as well in a store not on his route, he must ask reshus before.
Talmidim are expected to eat what yeshivah serves and not look to eat different menus from elsewhere. A Talmid who is not comfortable with Yeshivas food, may buy prepared food by making an order at a restaurant and it must be eaten in Yeshiva. It’s not a bochur’s place to be in a restaurant.

5. Dormitory
The conduct in the dormitory must be fitting for a Tomim. NO non Chasidishe Nigunim are allowed to be played in the dormitory. Of course, every Talmid should be familiar with the rules in Shulchan Aruch governing Tznius for men, and follow them at all times. The Talmid is responsible to maintain his room in a clean and orderly fashion.
The rooms in the dormitory MUST be unlocked at all times. A Talmid may not have any private locks in the dormitory or Yeshiavh.
It is vital for every Talmid wishing to remain in the dormitory to show full obedience to the dorm counselor at all times. Failure to do so may forfeit his right to use the dormitory.
After night Seder every Talmid MUST be either in the Yeshiva building or the dormitory, NOWHERE ELSE. At 11:00 PM every Talmid should be in the dormitory to enable getting to bed at 11:20. From that time, the dorm must be quiet and talmidim must respect and be sensitive to those wishing to go to sleep early.
Anyone who wants to stay up Thursday night for learning or farbrengens must receive reshus from Hanholo.
By entering talmid's name, you agree to follow all of the Yeshiva's rules.
